The EU adjusted the restrictions imposed against Belarus in the 8th sanctions package and synchronized them with the sanctions against Russia.
“In order to enforce the EU sanctions, starting from July 16, 2024, persons are prohibited to enter the territory of the Republic of Latvia by vehicles registered in the Republic of Belarus,” the State Revenue Service of Latvia reports. The ban applies to border checkpoints at Latvia-Belarus and Latvia-Russia borders.
The ban will not apply to vehicles for use by diplomatic and consular representatives, including delegations, embassies and representatives.
The ban on transportation is also expanded. Starting from July 1, 2024, any road transport company established in Belarus is prohibited to transport goods in the EU using trailers registered in Belarus.

Representatives of the regime are allowed to travel to the EU, trade with the regime continues.
