RT @KofmanMichael: Thoughts following a recent field study in Ukraine. Ukraine faces difficult months of fighting ahead, but the situation at the front is better than it was this spring. More worrisome is the state of Ukraine’s air defense, and the damage from Russian strikes to the power grid. 1/

RT @KofmanMichael: Although Ukraine is likely to stabilize the front line, addressing shortages of air defense, power generation, and improving Ukraine's own strike capability should be a priority for the West as it may prove much more significant for the trajectory of this war. 24/

RT @GuyPlopsky: These are MiG-29KRs, not MiG-29UBs. The two jets (B/N "35" & "39" Blue) are assigned to the Northern Fleet's 100th Shipborne Fighter Aviation Regiment (KIAP). https://twitter.com/Team_Luftwaffe/status/1811072415096623183#m

We should remember that Ukraine is receiving older variants of the F-16, it will only receive a limited number initially, its pilots received a very expedited training program, maintenance will be a bigger issue than with other NATO systems Ukraine has received, and we don't know what munitions they will receive. I suspect we will see them initially performing an air defense role to counter Russian cruise missiles. I think we should view this as more of a long-term shift from Soviet-era fighter aircraft to a NATO platform for the Ukrainian Air Force.

No-one serious thinks F-16s “will be a game changer” and saying so risks another cycle of hype and disappointment. The planes will bolster Ukraine’s air force, expand its air to air options and become more capable over time as other capabilities - like Swedish…

@nik0p0l5 @ArtWendeley: No doubt, but F-16 are more difficult to maintain and they will require entirely new spare parts and the maintainers also receiving expedited training. Just saying that there are a variety of reasons why this will be difficult.

@nik0p0l5 @ArtWendeley: Yes, and that is partially why the change needed to happen. Not sure the Soviet-era fighters were a sustainable option for the Ukrainian Air Force, and this will be a useful shift but the immediate effect may not be as great as some suspect.

RT @deaidua: Seeing the announcements made just now by the US government/Biden regarding future deliveries of IRIS-T SLM, IRIS-T SLS, Gepard SPAAGs, and the Patriot fire units by Germany, the Netherlands, and Romania, I don't see any evidence that these are additional pledges as announced earlier by POLITICO and Biden.
“Today, we are announcing that, collectively, we are providing Ukraine with additional [...] air defense systems, including additional Patriot batteries [...] by the United States, Germany, and Romania; Patriot components donated by the Netherlands and other partners [...] and an additional SAMP-T system donated by Italy”
We already knew about the German (delivered days ago), Romanian (weeks ago), Dutch (weeks ago), and Italian SAMP/T pledges (weeks ago). Only the US pledge is a new additional pledge to Ukraine.
Coming to the second part, we will discuss Germany in particular.

RT @paulmcleary: NEW: the U.S. will begin deploying “long-range fires” to Germany in 2026, including SM-6, Tomahawk, and hypersonic weapons, “which have significantly longer range than current land-based fires in Europe” US says in statement at NATO.

The soldiers from the Ukrainian 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade captured a modern Russian T-90M Proryv-3 tank in working condition.
The tank is equipped with added roof protection against drones.
