Service under contract in the Belarusian army is getting more popular instead of compulsory military service.

New recruits drafted for compulsory service during the spring conscription continue to be sent to the troops. In total, about 10,000 people are planned to be drafted.

Earlier we wrote that “along with those drafted for compulsory military service, a significant number of soldiers will join the army under contract.” Recent conscription campaigns show the growing popularity of contract service instead of compulsory service.

Since 2014, a conscript can serve 2 years under contract instead of compulsory service. According to Defense Ministry officials, the number of those willing to serve under contract instead of compulsory service has increased 1.5 times in 2021-2023.
