A Russian Telegram channel says that the GRU's 24th Spetsnaz Brigade will standup a heavy detachment "Vega" equipped with BMP-3, mortars, and other heavier equipment. @squatsons: Everything is possible. It’s possible it was a mechanical malfunction, and it caught fire and fell, and Ukraine is taking credit for it because they can. It is also possible that a surface-to-air missile, newspapers report an S-200, hit it earlier in the flight when it was closer to Ukraine, causing a large fire and eventually the plane falling out of the sky.
I can’t give you a conclusion because I don’t know the details surrounding the cause of the crash. It is more likely that it was a problem with the plane than it being shot down +400km from the front. But it’s not every day that you see any aircraft, let alone a Russian military bomber, coming back from bombing on fire falling out of the sky like that. It’s an extremely rare occurrence. It is a beautiful sight to see. I am sure you are happy that the crew lived.

Russian Tupolev Tu-22M3 bomber crashed in Stavropol Krai, southern Russia, on Friday.
At least one of the crew-members perished, two survived, according to available information.
The aircraft was returning to the Mozdok Air Base after launching missiles at Ukraine today's morning.
Interestingly, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (HUR MO) claimed that the Tu-22M3 was shot down by the Ukrainians over 300km from Ukraine with "the same means that were previously used to shot down the Russian A-50 [AEW&C aircraft].

“One of the Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, which carried out a missile attack against Ukraine on the night of April 19, was shot down as a result of a special operation of the Main Directorate of Intelligence in cooperation with the Air Force.
The enemy Tu-22M3 aircraft was shot down at a distance of about 300 kilometers from the frontline by the same means that were previously used to shoot down the Russian A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft. As a result of the damage, the bomber was able to fly to the Stavropol region, where it fell and crashed.
❗️ It should be noted that this is the first successful destruction of a strategic bomber in the air during a combat sortie during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.”
