Video of a Russian assault group from the 123rd Motorized Rifle Brigade's Zarya battalion that uses motorcycles in their assaults on the Siversk front. The bikes allow them to reach trenches faster and they are harder to spot. Their assaults are done in coordination with artillery and FPVs.

Military activity in Belarus in March 2024. Briefly.

• A large-scale combat readiness inspection of the Belarusian Armed Forces was conducted in March – it was the largest such event in recent years.

• The aviation activity of the Russian Aerospace Forces increased 2.5-fold.

• The number of the Russian Armed Forces deployed in Belarus hasn’t changed. The contingent of the Russian Armed Forces is still stationed in the same locations as before.

• Some of PMC Wagner mercenaries are still stationed in Belarus and continue to train enforcers of the Lukashenka regime.

Combat readiness inspection in Belarus: participants, numbers, locations.

On March 11, a combat readiness inspection began in the Belarusian Armed Forces, which is officially a response to the Steadfast Defender 2024 and Dragon-24 drills conducted by NATO member-states.

According to our data, this inspection has become the largest among similar events held in recent years.

The main brigades involved in this inspection are the 19th and 120th Brigades. A mass draft of reservists was also conducted to additionally staff the units – a total of at least 6000 reservists were drafted, with whom exercises on the main disciplines of combat training were held.

In addition, as part of the combat readiness inspection in March, units were deployed in at least 6 locations, including:
• Pastavy district;
• Ashmiany district;
• Lepelski training ground;
• Damanava training ground;
• Asipovichski training ground;
• Zaslonava.

What equipment did the Belarusian Armed Forces receive in March, and what deliveries are planned next?

In March, repair units of the Special Operations Forces received seven pieces of new military equipment, including REM-KL repair and evacuation vehicles and MTO-UB1 maintenance workshops.

There is also new information about the equipment that the Special Operations Forces are to receive in the near future:

• Machulishchy airfield will receive 8 pieces of ground maintenance equipment;

• Ministry of Defense of Belarus will purchase 13 Supercam S350 UAVs. Some of them may be sent to artillery units.

• The 377th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment of the Belarusian Armed Forces will be rearmed with modern air defense systems: S-400, Tor-M2K and Pantsir-S1.

Units of the Special Operations Forces are still stationed in the area bordering Ukraine.

In March, we continued to record the presence of units of the Special Operations Forces in the border area in the south of Belarus. Officially, it was stated that the military were there to perform the tasks of protecting the border with Ukraine, but at the same time, they also guard Russian military facilities in Homiel region.

As of the end of March, the following units were deployed in the area bordering Ukraine:

• The 383rd Separate Air Assault Battalion of the 38th Air Assault Brigade (military unit 92900).
Where: the vicinity of Ziabrauka airfield.

• A detachment of the 5th Brigade of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces.
Where: the vicinity of Mazyr.

We estimate the total number of these units at 400-500 people.

According to Belarusian Hajun, the situation with the Russian military contingent deployed on the territory of Belarus hasn’t changed in March.

The Russian Armed Forces are still stationed in the following locations in Belarus:
• Baranavichy, Mazyr (Bokau) and Ziabrauka airfields – 500-600 people;
• Baranavichy radar station and the 43rd Vileika communication center – up to 1450 people.

As of April 1, 2024, Belarusian Hajun estimates the number of the Russian military stationed in Belarus at ~2000.

In March, there were 2.5 times more arrivals of aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Belarus than in February. A total of 10 arrivals of the Russian aircraft were recorded during the month (4 arrivals in February).

According to our data, in total, Russian aircraft arrived at the following airports and airfields in Belarus in March:
• Machulishchy airfield – Tu-154, Il-76, and An-26KPA calibration equipment aircraft;
• Baranavichy airfield – three An-124, one An-12, one An-26;
• Minsk National Airport – Tu-134AK.
• Homiel airport – An-12.

It should be noted that the arrivals of not all the listed aircraft were related to military purposes. For example, the An-124 aircraft that arrived at Baranavichy airfield could have delivered MiG-29 fighters of the Algerian Air Force for repair (modernization), and the An-26KPA of the Russian Aerospace Forces was checking radio technical systems from March 15 to 22 and flew to Homiel airport.

The number of Wagner mercenaries hasn’t changed, but they are mentioned not so often in the publications.

According to our estimates, there are still several hundred mercenaries of PMC Wagner in Belarus – their number hasn’t changed.

It’s notable that the media policy regarding the mercenaries changed in March. Recently, the number of references to PMC Wagner by official resources has significantly decreased.

In March, the mercenaries continued to conduct training of the Internal Troops and the Belarusian Armed Forces:

• In Minsk. The 7th course of the special tactical training for officers of the Internal Troops was completed at the Valoushchyna training center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.

In total, from July 2023 to March 2024, more than two thousand servicemen and cadets of the Faculty of Internal Affairs underwent training with the mercenaries of PMC Wagner.

Air defense forces were redeployed to the vicinity of Mazyr to protect the oil refinery.

Starting from April 9, we began to record movements of equipment of the Belarusian Armed Forces in Yelsk (Homiel region). Since August 2023, no movements of military equipment have been reported in the town and its vicinity.

According to our information, last week, units of the Air Defense Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces were redeployed to Yelsk district:
• the 1146th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment (military unit 97106, Varniany, Astraviets district). The regiment is armed with five battery sets of the Tor-M2K systems. The regiment performs the task of guarding the Belarusian NPP.
• the 147th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment (military unit 96869, Babruisk). The regiment is armed with the Osa-AKM systems. The regiment is part of the Western Operational Command.
