The UK announced the introduction of new sanctions against Russia on the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The sanctions include two Belarusian entities, Planar JSC and Precise Electromechanics Plant.

Large-scale military drills of the “regional group of troops” of Belarus and Russia will be held on the territory of Belarus in 2025, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Khrenin said in an interview to Russian propagandists.

The decision to conduct joint military drills on the territory of Belarus or Russia every two years was made in 2009. The drills are held in the formats of joint strategic (operational-strategic) drills (West-2009, West-2013, West-2017, West-2021) and joint operational drills (Union Shield-2011, Union Shield-2015, Union Shield-2019, etc.). In other words, the West or Union Shield drills have been held every two years.

Based on the established sequence, the Union Shield drills were to take place in 2023. They were scheduled for September 22-26, 2023, but they were canceled. In 2024, no joint drills (operational/strategic) between Belarus and Russia were announced. Therefore, one time the drills were not held.
