What happened to the 1,002 M39 and M39A1 ATACMS that weren't refurbished into M57E1? Are they currently being refurbished? How long will it take for them to get refurbished?

Could they be used in their current condition as standard M39/M39A1 missiles if they’re not refurbished?

Adding up all the produced M39, M39A1, M48, and M57 ATACMS in total accounts for 3,169 ATACMS produced

However, a spokeswoman for Lockheed Martin said 4,000 ATACMS missiles were made. What ended up happening to the other 831 ATACMS that were produced? And what variants are they?

@PCrudy 469 were used in Iraqi Freedom and 74 were used in Desert Storm. In total it’s reported that +600 ATACMS have been used in combat. And I accounted for those, but there is still 1,833 ATACMS that are unaccounted for, even when including all the ones exported, used, and in storage.
