@DefMon3 @shashj @secretsqrl123 My understanding is that the 14 and 92nd Mechanized Brigades, 3rd and 4th Tank Brigades, 25th Airborne Brigade (on BMP-2), and 80th Air Assault Brigade (BTR and MRAPs) plus TDF and SOF took part. The rate of advance was fast by combat standards but not by normal standards.

@IAPonomarenko @DefMon3 @shashj @secretsqrl123 That's what I thought. The breakthrough was done by tanks and mechanized infantry and then recon and SOF pushed ahead to conduct ambushes. It seemed most of the assaults were done with armor while lighter infantry mopped up towns that were bypassed. Does that sound right?

@RALee85 @IAPonomarenko @shashj @secretsqrl123 The question was if they were building up fast motorized units. And they are doing that by equipping the Airborne Air assault units with Humvees MRAPs etc. As i understand a lot of the western equipment are going to these units.

@DefMon3 @IAPonomarenko @shashj @secretsqrl123 True, but my original point is that the majority of the force involved was heavy and many of the light vehicles and Humvees they're using is because they don't have enough IFVs. I'm not sure they're deliberately going light with all of these units because they're choosing to.

@RALee85 @IAPonomarenko @shashj @secretsqrl123 The Russian groupings were pretty scares, i think the mech units were attacking the stronghold like Balaklyia while the airborne/sof were roaming in between the strongholds attacking artillery supply and possible reinforcements. Also saturating the area with manpads.

@DefMon3 @IAPonomarenko @shashj @secretsqrl123 Yep, but I think the fast rate of advance can mostly be explained by the use of tanks and mechanized infantry, which becomes more important when you advance deeper with less arty. I think SOF/recon played a key role shaping the situation and leading to chaos for Russian units.

In the video, it can be seen that at least one Russian soldier was taken POW.
