Let's keep in mind that NATO defense planning has to include defending the Baltics from a potential invasion, which is tougher scenario since they are much smaller than Ukraine with smaller militaries. Russian forces still advanced deep into Ukraine in the first 48 hours.

@Jacob___Shively There is an assumption by some that we are better off overestimating the capabilities of an adversary "just to be on the safe side," but I'm not sure that its always or even usually better to overestimate than underestimate bc overestimating can have costs, sometimes big ones

@rgpoulussen Certainly, the Russian conventional threat is significantly reduced today, but this was about assessments of the Russian military before the war.
