According to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, After the recent events in Crimea, the Russian military is urgently moving their warplanes and helicopters deeper into the peninsula and to the airfields in Russia.

- Such activity was noted after a series of explosions at the military infrastructure facilities in Crimea, including at the Saki Air Base (August 9) and Hvardiiske Air Base (August 16).

- At least 24 airplanes and 14 helicopters were moved.

On August 11, the following were transferred to Hvardiiske Air Base:

- 5 Su-27/30 aircraft from the 38th Fighter Aviation Regiment (Belbek);
-5 SU-34 aircraft from the 559th Bomber Aviation Regiment (Morozovsk).

On August 17, a flight of helicopters was noted:

- 3 Ka-27 helicopters from the 318th Separate Mixed Aviation Regiment (Kacha) of the Black Sea Fleet to Khersones (Sevastopol);
- 3 Ka-27 helis from the 318th Sep. Mixed Aviation Reg. to Sevastopol;
- 8 helis to Krasnodar.

- 3 Su-35S aircraft from the 23rd Fighter Aviation Regiment (Dzyomgi) to Primorsko-Akhtarsk;

- 2 planes, probably MiG-31 to Kushchevskaya.

There was no recent push for Ukrainian membership in NATO. Sergei Lavrov had no idea Russia was planning on invading, whereas Putin wrote, "true sovereignty of Ukraine is possible only in partnership with Russia" last July. The war was about Ukraine.
