I agree with @AlexLuck9 here. The most interesting aspect of the PLA exercises is the air- and naval activity.

Also, don't be blinded by live firings. How far the PLA has progressed as a great power military is more likely to be revealed by activity outside announced areas.

The missile launches are the most uninteresting aspect for me in the announced PLA drills. But they probably happen first as its relatively easy to move and launch stuff. I am waiting especially for any significant naval activity, to point out the obvious. Or an absence of same.

Additional note: I do believe we'd seen a different reaction from Taiwan if ballistic missiles had actually overflown the island.

So despite Chinese state media graphics, I don't think any such launches have been made yet.
