Romanov estimates 300-400 prisoners have been recruited from each of the following regions, Leningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Novgorod, Vladimir, Mordovia, and Adygea.

Prisoners are being offered pardons and monthly salaries up to 220,000 RUB and payments to their families of 5,000,000 RUB in the event of their deaths.

The recruitment process appears to be intentionally confusing for the prisoners. They haven't been officially pardoned by the courts, prisoners aren't being provided with contracts, and neither they nor their families know who or how they will be paid for their service.

Some prisoners have apparently told their families the state will consider them to have escaped from the prison if they are killed in Ukraine.

Training for some 150 prisoners is already underway in the Rostov region. With the first prisoners expecting to ship out to Ukraine on 20 July. Meaning they are receiving less than three weeks training.
