I personally believe that the Strategic Rocket Forces need this missile, as any remaining SS-18s now have dubious reliability while still accounting for a considerable number of warheads, so a successful test now was important for them.

However, to be regarded as a reliable missile system, as the Yars variants are, we need to see a number of new successful tests, including long range shot(s) into the Pacific.

Final note, the silo conversion program is progressing faster than the test program, so they seem determined to deploy it.

Weird that Hegseth wouldn't have been briefed on this. The US intelligence assessment is that up to 5000 Cubans are fighting for Russia. The State Dept was tasked last year of communicating this information to allies.
