How a Downed F-15E Crew Member Survived Behind Enemy Lines and Was Rescued by US 🇺🇸 Forces

After ejection, the WSO put into practice Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape. SERE training allows US soldiers to survive behind enemy lines in harsh conditions and avoid detection

The WSO was able to move away from the crash site in time and avoid detection by hiking to elevated terrain for better concealment and visibility

He activated an emergency beacon to alert recovery search and rescue teams via an encrypted signal only US Forces can read

While Iranian 🇮🇷 forces, including IRGC and Basij, began searching for the downed airman, the US launched a Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) operation

The mission was complex, requiring location and recovery of the isolated WSO, while preventing hostile forces from arriving first

Throughout the weekend, US Special Operations units, including Air Force pararescuemen (PJs) and other elite recovery team, undertook the rescue under hostile conditions

A-10 Warthogs were deployed to provide close air support and protect the recovery teams and the stranded WSO

The rescue operation faced significant resistance. Two US rescue helicopters took enemy fire and crew members were wounded, however, both helicopters made it out of Iran

During the night, a number of enemy soldiers were killed during efforts to prevent them from reaching the WSO

Now that both the pilot & WSO are confirmed safe...

A lot of people, both the usual grifting slop accounts and journos who should know better, were complaining that CENTCOM hadn't confirmed the loss of the F-15E.

It would be malpractice for them to do that while CSAR for the crew was ongoing. You don't give the enemy intel, even if it's something you think they already know. You don't make it easier for them.

At first all the reports were of a single seat F-35. You don't tell the enemy actually it was a two seat F-15E and there's two crew, not one, that you should be looking for.

The public is not owed minute by minute updates on sensitive rescue operations.

Transparency is good but it can't come at the expense of operational security.

RT @SA_Defensa: Idk why OSINT posters / reporters aren’t applying any discretion to NOT post certain content.

I feel like we who focused for Venezuela were very tight with our content and what we put out.

After rescuing the WSO, two US 🇺🇸 transport aircraft that were part of the evacuation team became stranded at a remote base in Iran 🇮🇷

In response, command staff flew in three replacement aircraft and destroyed the two disabled planes to keep them from getting into Iranian hands

@TuckBurgidson @ka_grieco @evanhill: I expect it from Defense Priorities. Concerning to see more think tanks adopt this attitude.

@chris_komatsu: Almost like the PAOs learned that it's best to not hit send? People are just looking for an opportunity to dunk on them and get clout. This was handled professionally. It should be a learning experience for everyone.

RT @JenGriffinFNC: Fox News can confirm that the 2nd crew member of the downed F15E fighter jet has been rescued and he and the members of the rescue team that extracted him from behind enemy lines in Iran are all safely out of Iran. That according to two senior US officials and multiple well placed sources in the region. The Weapons Systems Officer ejected along with the pilot when their F15E Strike Eagle they were flying was struck Thursday night (early Friday local time) in southwest Iran.

The WSO used the SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) training to evade capture, hiding on an elevated ridge after hiking away from the wreckage and putting out an emergency beacon.) US Special Operations rescue forces to include PJs (United States Air Force Pararescuemen (PJs) and many layers of elite rescue forces took part in the complex, layered mission to both find the crew member and also keep the Iranian forces who were hunting the American weapons system operator at bay. There are videos that have appeared from local eyewitnesses that show what appear to have been  injured and dead Iranian members of the IRGC and Basij who were looking for the downed American crew member. Fox has learned there was fighting on the ground but no Americans killed during the operation. “It was a very complex operation to retrieve the downed service member,” a well placed source briefed on the operation told me. Many different branches of the US military were involved in the rescue.

Fox News can confirm the A10 Warthog that crashed Friday was involved in providing cover for the rescue teams searching for the pilot. That A10 crashed in Kuwait (first reported by ABC Friday) but the A10 pilot managed to eject safely and was rescued. There was destruction of aircraft which have sensitive equipment on board, I am told, all part of this complex CSAR (Combat Search and Rescue) mission.

The F15E was pretty much destroyed on impact. Two rescue helicopters were hit by enemy fire on  Friday and crew members onboard were injured by enemy fire but managed to make it out of Iran.

There were a lot of elements to this rescue, I am told.
