@evanhill @ka_grieco: Total JASSMs in inventory is significantly higher than that. ~5700 have been procured. Payne uses some sort of "proprietary" methodology for their calculations, which is clearly not based on analysis of the relevant documents.

@ka_grieco @evanhill: ER deliveries to date per the P-1 & SAR is actually 3035. 75 unserviceable is plausible, so 2960. First known use of ER was Oct 2019. NBC claims 20 used last spring in Yemen, but unlikely more than that because there are no reprogramming actions for it. 660 expenditures is not plausible. Bloomberg has one anonymous source who is not even identified as a member of the US government. Their work here is not credible. Why are you so eager to eat this up?

The rescue operation faced significant resistance. Two US rescue helicopters took enemy fire and crew members were wounded, however, both helicopters made it out of Iran

Now that both the pilot & WSO are confirmed safe...
A lot of people, both the usual grifting slop accounts and journos who should know better, were complaining that CENTCOM hadn't confirmed the loss of the F-15E.
It would be malpractice for them to do that while CSAR for the crew was ongoing. You don't give the enemy intel, even if it's something you think they already know. You don't make it easier for them.
At first all the reports were of a single seat F-35. You don't tell the enemy actually it was a two seat F-15E and there's two crew, not one, that you should be looking for.
The public is not owed minute by minute updates on sensitive rescue operations.
Transparency is good but it can't come at the expense of operational security.
