"Vladimir Putin has asked oligarchs to donate to Russia’s budget in a bid to stabilise the country’s finances as he presses on with his invasion of Ukraine, according to three people familiar with the matter.
The comments by Russia’s president to a large group of prominent businessmen on Thursday made it clear that he is intent on pursuing the war to a victorious end despite the growing strains on the Kremlin’s budget.
Russia will fight on, Putin said, until it captures the remaining areas of Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region not under its control, according to two of the people."

@moklasen: Well, the bid for success last year was trying to push to Barvinkove last fall but it failed despite reinforcing with naval infantry and several Rubicon detachments. Ukraine was able to concentrate its forces there as well. Maybe their view is that they will have better prospects by spreading out these forces and not weakening the other groups of forces.

The United States is considering deploying 10,000 more ground troops to the Middle East even as peace talks with Iran are underway, according to Pentagon officials familiar with planning.
If ordered, these would join the elements of the 82nd Airborne Division and two Marine Expeditionary Units (+ 6,000 personnel) that are currently heading to the region.
