The attempted assassination marks a major shift in US policy toward the Iranian-backed militias in Iraq. Under the Biden Administration, the US only conducted minimal retaliatory attacks against the militias, until 3 US soldiers were killed in a KH drone attack on Tower 22 in Jordan. Only then did the US strike militia commanders - prompting the militias to cease attacks on US interests in Iraq immediately. Following the Tower 22 attack, the strikes of the Biden admin only targeted second-tier commanders, not the top leadership, as the Trump administration is doing now.

Despite UAS & cUAS dominating the defense discourse, defense policy is still catching up. It has more to do with tactics, techniques and procedures than procurement too. The Ukrainians have a lot to teach us, but there is still resistance to learning, especially in US.
