Ukrainian infantry are often told not to engage Russian infantry unless absolutely necessary. In some cases, the forward positions are more similar to observation posts. Russian infiltration groups often make it past the forward line of Ukrainian positions but are killed or fail to gain a foothold. It isn't exactly clear how much territory infantry on both sides actually hold since UAS are responsible for the majority of casualties on both sides. It is simply more difficult for maps to properly display the current character of the fighting.
