RT @TheIntelFrog: Alright folks, take a breather.

- There's an exercise near Hawaii.
- The Abraham Lincoln is ~7 days out from being within range of Iran.
- There are 0 bombers forward deployed to Diego Garcia, Qatar or any other locale across the world.

RT @TravelGov: Qatar: Given ongoing regional tensions, the U.S. Embassy in Doha has advised its personnel to exercise increased caution and limit non-essential travel to Al Udeid Airbase. We recommend U.S. citizens in Qatar do the same. The U.S. Mission to Qatar continues to monitor the situation. More at: https://qa.usembassy.gov/security-alert-u-s-embassy-doha-january-14-2026/

GeoConfirmed Iran.

Be aware that many so-called “OSINT” accounts — which often just retweet others’ work without crediting the original source (such as Telegram channels) or post unverified information to attract attention, with little genuine INT in what they do — are once again spreading opportunistic takes and, in some cases, misinformation and disinformation.

For example: "Heavy take-offs underway from Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar".

While this is a landing at Doha International Air Base, located about 30 km from Al-Udeid Air Base...

@Based_Dissident @WarMonitors: Warmonitors has blocked us because we caught him spreading disinformation multiple times, and he just can’t handle facts. He likes spreading what he wants to be the truth.

Meanwhile, accounts like these end up gaining over a million followers thanks to Elon Musk’s disastrous changes to how X works.
Money matters more than facts. 🤷‍♂️

RT @idreesali114: WASHINGTON, Jan 14 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Iranian opposition figure Reza Pahlavi "seems very nice" but expressed uncertainty over whether Pahlavi would be able to muster support within Iran to eventually take over. @steveholland1

🇺🇸🇮🇷 President Trump told his national security team that he would want any US military action in Iran to deliver a "swift and decisive blow" to the Iranian regime.

"If he does something, he wants it to be definitive," one of the people familiar with the discussions said.

But so far, he hasn't gotten that guarantee from his advisers, per sources.

A US official, two people familiar with the discussions and one person close to the White House said Trump is ready to follow through on his repeated promises to protesters in Iran that the US would intervene militarily to support them in their efforts to topple the regime.

@Osint613 @MarioLeb79: Yes, that was me.

Does that mean you can’t make mistakes?

It’s actually more disappointing when large accounts make those errors...

You’ve added OSINT to your name, you have hundreds of thousands of followers, and you track wars just like we do.
That comes with responsibility — a responsibility that applies to every “OSINT” account. Your choice of words, your verification process, and your accuracy all matter.

This isn’t about your account specifically — you just happened to be the first one we noticed. So take that as a compliment.

Let’s take a step back and look at the broader “OSINT” community, especially after Elon Musk’s changes. What do we actually see?

The majority of these accounts claim to do OSINT and even include it in their name. But most of them don’t do the work. At best, they’re news aggregators — copying and pasting information without citing sources, rewriting descriptions to grab attention, and shaping opinions based on unverified data. They chase attention, not accuracy. In other words, they’re engagement farmers. These accounts make up most of what’s now labeled as “OSINT.”

Then there’s a second group — at least they add some value. They might collect and organize information into threads, or conduct basic analyses to make the data easier to understand.

Finally, there are the real OSINT accounts.

A definition:
"OSINT is the practice of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting publicly available information from open sources to produce insights for decision-making, threat assessment, and investigations."

The real OSINT accounts go beyond aggregation. They verify locations, identify equipment types, and perform full investigations — turning raw data into actionable, verified insights.

We know where we stand: GeoConfirmed is a verification community of more than 100 volunteers, dedicated to answering factual “where” questions. Does that make us an OSINT account? That’s not for us to decide.

In four years, GeoConfirmed has made seven mistakes — just seven. Each time, we reviewed our verification process, because seven out of more than 60,000 published geolocations is still seven too many. That’s the level of responsibility our admin team has committed to. We guarantee where something happened — not what happened, and not when. And in every one of those seven cases, we deleted our tweets and posted corrections.

How many accounts get fact-based Community Notes but never make corrections? For them, it’s not about the facts. The initial tweet draws attention — and that’s what matters most to them.

So yes, we’re sorry we used your tweet as an example. It wasn’t personal. But it did highlight a much broader problem within the OSINT community.

So the real question is: which of the three groups do you want to be part of?
