@Liberal_in_Bama: US has done what you’re saying is unlikely multiple times throughout the war. US purchased and delivered to Ukraine Phoenix Ghost, GLSDB launched from HIMARS, Switchblade 600, Vampire, and other weapons that it didn’t have itself.
For JLTV, the US military already tested out those launchers using Tomahawk, and deemed them unnecessary for itself, and thus did not order them. But Ukraine needs them, some of the ones being tested now could be sent or several more launchers could be ordered.
For Oshkosh, the US has a better alternative, in service and ordered, the Typhoon missile system. US weapons manufacturers produce prototypes for hundreds of weapons systems every year, the vast majority of them never end up being ordered by the US because the US doesn’t need multiple alternatives to systems that it already has. Even if they look nice or useful, the US doesn’t fund the vast majority of them, and sometimes other countries put in orders for weapons systems when the US doesn’t.
For example, the US currently doesn’t have the Barracuda-500 925km ground and air launched cruise missile, but the Pentagon is considering it as a potential long range missile that Ukraine could be sent.
It’s within the realm of possibility that the US allows Europe to order several Oshkosh X-Mav launchers for Ukraine. The US does not necessarily need Oshkosh X-Mav anyway since they already have the typhoon and if they do want it, then they could order launchers for themselves and the first 2 of 4 launchers could go to Ukraine and 2 could go to the US.
Chances are the US won’t order X-Mav for itself anyway, but it’s a real possibility for Ukraine.
