🇺🇸🇧🇪 The US State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Belgium of 320 AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder tactical missiles, and 258 AIM-9X Block II+ Sidewinder tactical missiles, plus associated equipment and services for an estimated cost of $567.8 million.
Sidewinder unit cost is ~$400,000.
The prime contractor would be Raytheon.
"The description and dollar value are for the highest estimated quantity and dollar value based on initial requirements. Actual dollar value will be lower depending on final requirements, budget authority, and signed sales agreement(s), if and when concluded."

SDB I unit cost is ~$50,000.
The prime contractor would be Boeing.

The P-8A, either with or without the AAS radar pod has very capable sensors - but up until now, had been armed only with the medium-range AGM-84 Harpoon. With a range of only a few-dozen miles, Harpoon put the P-8A in the frustrating situation of having sensors that seriously out-ranged its weapons.
The comparatively short range of Harpoon meant that P-8A would either have to get close to surface ships with area air defenses, or let other aircraft handle the actual engagement, while the P-8A stood off to provide guidance.
Not anymore. With LRASM coming to the fleet, the Navy is going to have a step change in the striking power and mass of its maritime patrol force. This is a major boost for this community - giving it, for the first time in decades - a truly modern and leading anti-surface warfare capability. USN...

I am constantly amazed by the level of confidence in some of these statements about the Dobropillya salient, while we are getting very little verifiable and non-contradictory information out of that section of the front.
