Ukraine Battle Map (Twitter)

@front_ukrainian: There was no Russia; they belonged to the Soviet Union as a whole. They did not belong to one specific country. That was the whole point of the Soviet Union; they all worked together for it. Without Ukraine, the Soviet Union would not have had nuclear weapons or rockets for them.
Ukraine Battle Map (Twitter)

@ukraine_map @front_ukrainian: When the Soviet Union broke apart, these assets were split up. Russia received the most nuclear warheads, Ukraine received the second most, Kazakhstan received the third most, and Belarus received the fourth most.

Ukraine also acquired bombers and cruise missiles, both nuclear and non-nuclear. All the ICBMs and many of the ALCMs had nuclear launch codes that Moscow had after the Soviet Union disintegrated, preventing Ukraine from immediately launching those missiles without some significant reworking of the warheads to be used. Some of the missiles with nuclear warheads, like Kh-22, did not and may never have had launch codes; they were developed nearly two decades before the nuclear launch code system was made in the Soviet Union, allowing Ukraine to be able to use them.
