RT @Etienne_Marcuz: While I fully endorse the idea of EXTENDING French ☢️nuclear deterrence to European partners, I strongly oppose the idea of SHARING it.

1. this would be an internal political suicide for the politician who suggests it.
2. European decision making process is incompatible.

NATO isn't dead yet but this should now be the new key planning assumption.

Perhaps it could be called a predictable strategic shock?

Beyond NATO, there are the bilateral relationships which shouldn't be written off either, but if push comes to shove, plans B and C are needed.

As an Atlanticist this is painful to say, but this is the direction this train wreck is heading, at high speed.

We should try to work with the US where we can, as long as we can, but European countries need to make a firm stand now, even if it draws Trump's wrath.

To round off, something that draws a bit of flak, but again:

For a rapid and substantial European defense buildup, we still need the US defense industry.

While hope is a poor strategy, we must hope Trump still likes doing business with us and likes money going into the US.

RT @Mike_Pence: Mr. President, Ukraine did not “start” this war. Russia launched an unprovoked and brutal invasion claiming hundreds of thousands of lives. The Road to Peace must be built on the Truth.🇺🇸🇺🇦

RT @RepDonBacon: Putin started this war. Putin committed war crimes. Putin is the dictator who murdered his opponents. The EU nations have contributed more to Ukraine. Zelensky polls over 50%. Ukraine wants to be part of the West, Putin hates the West. I don’t accept George Orwell’s doublethink.

RT @Liveuamap: President Macron: I have just had another long conversation with several colleagues from the European Union, as well as Canada, Iceland and Norway. We stand alongside Ukraine and will take all our responsibilities to ensure peace and security in Europe. This is France's fundamental interest and I am its guarantor. We share the objective, which is also that of President @realDonaldTrump, to put an end to the war of aggression waged by Russia for almost three years. https://liveuamap.com/en/2025/19-february-19-president-macron-i-have-just-had-another-long

RT @CalibreObscura: Aside from anything else (I'm not as doomer as many) the sheer childishness of *publicly* crying about Zelensky showing the mildness of public disappointment over the proposed colonial subjugation (with the associated mass killings) of his people by Russia really is gross.

Addendum:

As for the Atlanticism, we mustn't forget Canada in all of this. They are still there, across the pond, and is an important Arctic nation, with a substantial economy.
