After all, we always claim that we are Ukraine's second-biggest supporter in the world after the US or the biggest in Europe. While I don't doubt this claim, judging by the overall amount of assistance given and pledged, I don't understand why especially our Chancellor hesitates when it comes to the invitation of Ukraine to NATO.

I would like to emphasise once again that Germany has a special responsibility when it comes to this topic! Yes, Ukraine cannot become a member during the war, but this is “only” about a formal invitation so that Ukraine is not left hanging like in 2008 once the war is over.

The White House stated that all $20 billion will be economic assistance unless Congress renews the expired FMF loan authority. Those funds would only be available for procurement of US origin defense articles unless an OSP authorization is implemented.
