They have dozens of Bavar 373 and Kordad 15 batteries, launchers which were domestically produced long range air defense systems

The bigger problems isn’t the number of long range air defense systems that Iran has, but the number of ALBMs that Israel has available to them because the number of Iranian air defense systems doesn’t matter when they can’t intercept Israel’s ALBMs. Even if they had 1,000 systems, if those systems can’t intercept ALBMs then they are useless against these types of strikes.

@TirahaloM @EldadUrian @clashreport: We were talking about Long Range Air Defense Systems which Iran has or had S-300s, Bavar-373, Khordad-15/Talaash (copy of Patriot), as well as possibly an S-400 hidden somewhere.

For medium range, they have MIM-23 Hawk, then their copy of Hawk called Mersad, as well as Kamin-2, 2K12 Kub, Raad-1/2 and 3rd Khordad (copy of Buk) that shot down USA’s RQ-4 Drone in 2019 at a range of +40km

For Short Range, they have Ya Zahra-3 (copy of the French Crotale), Herz-9, Tor-M1 (~29 launchers) those were used to shoot down Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752 in 2019. They also have Rapier Systems (~30 launchers) with several hundred Rapier-1 Missiles, and possibly some of their domestically produced Azarakhsh introduced this year.

The quality of these air defenses against cruise missiles, stealth fighter jets, and other types of missiles is unknown but it’s pretty clear they they are not able to intercept Israel’s ALBMs. However, Iran does have a significant amount of air defenses of varying types with their weakest being Long Range Air Defenses.

The aircraft could be used for varying purposes, for support, defense, as well as striking Syria like they did that day.
