Admiral Golovko preparing for its first out of area deployment.

Will highly likely include a stint in the Med but might feature visits elsewhere too. https://twitter.com/MrFrantarelli/status/1842086979787182373#m

RT @akefford: Hugely saddened to hear of the death of Lt Michael Tibbs, one of our last surviving WW2 submarine officers. He's pictured visiting HMS Alliance, in Gosport, last November to mark his 102nd birthday.

Real security guarantees, NATO membership or something like the US treaties with Japan and South Korea, is required if one wants the war to end and Ukraine to prevail, having a sustainable future.

This won't be easy, nor is it risk free, but the alternative is worse for us too.

@The_Lookout_N: The probability of this actually happening isn't good for the reasons given by @3_bm15 here.

RT @John_A_Ridge: @ArmsControlWonk: An Arrow 3 All-Up Round does not cost $50M.

$50M is MDA’s FY25 top-line for the entire Program of Record. Quantities and cost elements are explicitly classified.
That includes fire units, All-Up Rounds, and other articles.

Israeli sources claim Arrow AURs cost ~$3.5M. https://twitter.com/ArmsControlWonk/status/1842294649454837972#m

RT @ThrustWR: @ArmsControlWonk: Not to nag on the respected Dr, but taking a snapshot of the main budget item line page doesn't tell you the whole story. SM-3 IIA costs are up for FY24 due to a decrease in order size (by half from 24 to 12 + FMS) compared to FY23. https://twitter.com/ArmsControlWonk/status/1842294646590095640#m

@ThrustWR: Reading P-1s but not understanding them is worse than not reading them at all, tbh.

For clarity, these are the newest figures from the FY2025 PB.
Colby Badhwar 🇨🇦🇬🇧 (Twitter)

IB unit cost was steady at $9 million each but escalated to $12.5 million for FY2024, the final year of (reduced) procurement.

IIA is averaging around $29 million.

SM-3 is expensive because it is an extremely sophisticated missile (it intercepts ballistic missiles in the exosphere) and is procured in small quantities. It is an essential capability that the United States needs to defend against enemy ballistic missiles (primarily Chinese but obviously Iranian, North Korean and Russian too).

@AlienParty @newhandle87: Lots of good work is being done to correctly identify the missiles that the IRGC used. Check out @fab_hinz' feed.
