@Fidias0: “STOP sending weapons and push for peace talks”

Do you understand how illogical that statement is? If you stop sending weapons, it’ll leave Ukraine defenseless, the fronts will collapse, Russia will occupy major parts of the country and possibly take Kyiv. Russia’s initial goal

🇺🇸 The Department of Defense has awarded Raytheon a pair of contracts, worth $126 million, for Stinger missile, ancillary equipment and support. The Army's FY24 budget request for Stinger was $36.5 million, leaving ~$90 million to cover Foreign Military Sales orders.

For the first time, the US included AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) glide bombs in its newest security aid package for Kyiv, a US defense official told ABC News.

These bombs can be launched from Ukraine-operated F-16 fighter jets and have the estimated maximum range of more than 110km (depending on flight profile).

The variant being sent to Ukraine is equipped with cluster warhead, according to the official.

At least 150 M1117s are included in this Drawdown. The first 250 pledged were via the EDA program but had to be refurbished first. These are presumably coming straight out of stocks, so long as they were already Condition Code A or B. Amazing what the DoD can do when they aren't being intransigent. https://twitter.com/ColbyBadhwar/status/1839056567909360012#m

@DrPaulyDeSantis: US Army wasn't even buying Stinger before the war started. Inventory was deemed large enough and SLEP was underway for expired missiles. New missiles being bought to replace those Drawndown to Ukraine. Next-Gen Short Range Interceptor program to succeed Stinger is underway.

@DrPaulyDeSantis: No. LM & Raytheon are currently under RDT&E contract to present designs for a future downselect. LRIP in 2028.

🇺🇸🇯🇵 The Senate draft FY25 NDAA authorizes an additional $400 million (on top of the Biden Admin's $182 million request) for the Glide Phase Interceptor.

GPI is not one of the programs that receives additional funding in SAC-D's draft Defense Approps Act though.

SAC-D appropriates an additional $21 billion above the FRA topline cap.
SASC NDAA authorized $25 billion more.
@SenatorWicker proposed $55 billion more.

Chances are GPI won't get any extra money in the final Defense Approps, so the only way to increase it would be through a separate supplemental. https://twitter.com/tomkarako/status/1839024109092589944#m
