Archival footage of a Ukrainian air strike during the battle of Avdiivka. They say the first bomb, presumably a JDAM, was jammed by EW, but the second successfully struck a Russian assault group in a basement. 6/

🇺🇲🇸🇪🇺🇦 The US Department of Defense has awarded Saab a $494 million 5-year contract for XM919 Individual Assault Munitions.
Saab has won the IAM competition with their AT-4 Confined Space Tandem Warhead, beating out General Dynamics and Nammo.
The XM919 will replace both the legacy M136 (AT-4) and M141 Bunker Defeat Munition in US Army service, both of which have been drawndown to Ukraine in large numbers, necessitating inventory replenishment. AT-4CS TW is designed to defeat fortifications, buildings and lightly armored vehicles.
The Army budgeted $12 million in FY24 for the procurement of 535 rounds. However the Army intends to reprogram replacement funding from the Ukraine Supplementals for XM191, so this may increase.
Per the solicitation, each annual order lot for the 5 year contract will not exceed a maximum of 3200 rounds, for a possible total of up to 16,000.
The contract required bidders to conduct Load, Assemble and P...

@Canad_ian_ @eugah @audrey_decker9: DoD has already assumed responsibility for F-16 sustainment, so Lockheed likely wouldn't be allowed to even seek commercial deals to provide those services. It's de facto FMS only.

RT @John_A_Ridge: This is a microcosm of prioritizing appropriations for USAI over FMF.
The DoD is actioning USAI contracts glacially and often unaligned with explicit Ukrainian needs. FMF gives Ukraine agency to award contracts themselves according to their own requirements and schedules. https://twitter.com/ColbyBadhwar/status/1828779577331662988#m

@John_A_Ridge @ehacke: Yes, delays aren't purposeful, they are just the inevitable result of the Admin not actually being committed to Ukraine defeating Russia. The Army PEOs are all working hard to support Ukraine but the AF are intransigent, and senior military & political leadership is clueless.

🇺🇸🇩🇰🇳🇴🇺🇦 Some good news for once:
The USAF 68th Electronic Warfare Squadron worked with Denmark & Norway to reprogram the electronic warfare suite on the donated F-16s to better contend with Russian EW. 68th EWS now has an active FMS/USAI case to provide ongoing support to the Ukrainian Air Force. The data collected by Ukraine will allow the USAF to improve both their own & Ukraine's EW capabilities against the Russians.

The Belarusian military is looking for specialists with knowledge of foreign languages – state languages of NATO countries bordering Belarus.
The army (so far) doesn’t need servicemen with knowledge of the Ukrainian language:

I haven't picked up weather chatter yet but I agree with this.
"Finger in the wind" assessments on what the weather might mean for operations are not very useful.
It's better to start by looking at what happened over the course of previous autumn-winter-spring periods.

Public discussions increasingly suggest that offensive operations in the Pokrovsk area will stop or slow down due to worsening weather conditions in September. However, I’m not so sure - last year’s offensive on Avdiivka started on October 10th and continued…
