Mike @KofmanMichael and I wrote about the upcoming Ukrainian offensive and what comes afterwards. Although Ukraine will likely make gains, this offensive is unlikely to end the war. Western countries need a plan for supporting Ukraine for a long war.

“Only at the last moment, according to a deputy Ukrainian brigade commander, were even senior officers told of the offensive. The commander...said he had summoned subordinate officers to a meeting on a roadside in a forest to make an announcement. They would invade Russia. This was three days before the attack. Rank-and-file soldiers learned only a day before.” @AndrewKramerNYT

RT @WarintheFuture: The Ukrainian operation in Kursk is almost one week into execution. As the Russians slowly but surely redeploy forces to seal off the breach in their border and attempt to push the Ukrainians back into #Ukraine, it is worth pondering the options the Ukrainians might have once they reach their limit of exploitation. 1/20 🧵🇺🇦

@nexta_tv: In other words, US and UK/France want Russian logistics to be safe from attacks allowing them to retake Kursk and set up offensives into Ukraine 🇺🇦

Russia is thankful to the US and UK/France for allowing a safe haven against Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG and ATACMS being used on Russia

@cym27s @nexta_tv: It appears that they do not produce it in significant or noticeable quantities meaning the stockpile is very low, it is likely less accurate than Storm Shadows are, is easier to shoot down, and maybe not have been put in service to be used at 1000km. Ukraine would need ATACMS and Storm Shadows in significant quantities to make a difference because Neptune just doesn’t cover it. Also, production is in Ukraine making it more challenging and more vulnerable to attacks on factories where they are being built. Even if they did have 1000km Neptune and it was accurate, their production rate is nothing near what they need which takes years to raise. ATACMS, Storm Shadow, Taurus, SLAM-ER, and JASSM are the best options in terms of quantity or production rate, accuracy, and success rate.
