A lot of people are conflating SHORAD with CUAS. These are two different things. NOMADS is the former, the latter is just one facet of its capabilities. 🇺🇲🇸🇰 The US State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Slovakia of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters, 1680 APKWS 70mm guided rockets, plus other associated equipment and services for an estimated cost of $600 million. The prime contractors would be Bell Textron and General Electric.
This potential sale was initially reported last year to be worth around $1 billion, with over $600 million of that being covered by FMF. Unclear if it will still be financed by FMF, but if that's the case, then I expect that Slovakia will not be procuring PATRIOT anytime soon, as they were looking at using those funds for that rather than the helos.
"The description and dollar value are for the highest estimated quantity and dollar value based on initial requirements. Actual dollar value will be lower depending on final requirements, budget authority, and signed sales agreement(s), if and when concluded."
