@Heroiam_Slava: True, that was one of the many negative factors of the firing. He was a great General the entire war, it would be one thing if he was replaced by a better General, but got replaced by a Russian General who uses Soviet Strategies and doesn’t value lives of soldiers nearly as much.

@Marialinden301 @Heroiam_Slava: Syrskyi is a historically bad general, and the situation on the battlefield is significantly worse than expected after Zaluzhnyi was fired.

Blaming the failure of the counteroffensive on Zaluzhnyi is inaccurate. Ukraine at the time got a handful of tanks, no ATACMS missiles, didn’t get cluster munitions until the end of Summer, and no air power to conduct their offensive. Then they got this equipment six months after they should’ve, which allowed Russia to dig trenches and mine the entire front line during that time, then were asked to liberate the whole area till the Azov Sea with this equipment. At the time, the minimum calculation was that Ukraine would’ve lost 40% of their soldiers doing that, and Zaluzhnyi would not agree to such a high loss with 25% of the needed equipment months after it should’ve been there. As for his record as a General, he is responsible for defending Kyiv, the entire Ukraine, and for Ukraine reclaiming over 50% of the territory that Russia took since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2014. This is the reason why most Ukrainian soldiers and 90% of Ukraine approve of him and trust him as the lead General, not the random non-Ukrainians on X/Twitter.

The minimum for Syrskyi was at least to maintain the battlefield without significant territory or troop losses. This turned into severe troop losses, bad withdrawals, and the highest rate of territory loss in the past two years. Also, the replacement drastically decreased morale, and since then, there has been a significant rise in spies working for Russia in the Ukrainian military, giving information to the Russians and allowing them to take out critical military targets.

One of the political reasons Zaluzhnyi was replaced was because he wanted to withdraw from Avdiivka; after he was replaced, the next day, Syrskyi announced that Ukraine was sending reinforcements into Avdiivka to retake lost territory to break the encirclement. This led to more Ukrainian soldiers being pushed into the encirclement, with zero gains and high losses. Russia, within the next two weeks, fully encircled Avdiivka except for one dirt road out of the city. Only then did Syrskyi choose to withdraw, at the last second. The only dirt road out of Avdiivka was filled with Ukrainian corpses. The Ukrainian soldiers sent into Avdiivka by Syrskyi in those weeks who were injured had no help and no way out and were killed after Russia reached their positions. They were being sent to their deaths. This was expected and consistent with Syrskyi’s previous military decisions where he sent soldiers into an encirclement or to attack with no strategy, causing them to die, as he did with the Battle of Debaltseve in 2015. After leaving Avdiivka, there has been withdrawal from village after village on a weekly basis, and in some cases, the surrender of important positions due to major tactical errors.

I can continue for a long time talking about current and historically bad decisions being made by Syrskyi, but I wanted to give a couple of examples. This is not speculation and a ton more have been documented by Ukrainian soldiers and commanders about this decision-making over the year. The replacement was a political decision made by Zelensky for there to be a General who listened to him more. A significantly worse General was put in place, which caused a drop in troop morale and the morale of regular Ukrainians, worse decision making, and almost immediately, the situation on the battlefield began and continues to deteriorate.

@NOELreports: This means that the ATACMS Missile was not shot down. When a Cluster ATACMS Missile is about to hit its target, it spins, and the propulsion system splits from the payload section activating a fuze, and 950 M74 bomblets are dispersed over a large area.

Russia has claimed Ukraine launched over 50 ATACMS, and has claimed to have shot down over 30 of them, but has yet to show evidence of any ATACMS being shot down.
