@RadCentrism: It depends on whether the US passes the aid package and whether Ukraine can fix its manpower issues. If neither happens, Russia could make greater gains this summer/fall.

🧵Thread:
The battle for Chasiv Yar is a litmus test for both sides. Losing control of it will have dire results for Ukraine. Failure to capture Chasiv Yar on time would raise doubts about Russia's ability to seize Donbas

@Tatarigami_UA: As @Tatarigami_UA notes, Chasiv Yar is located on high ground. If Russia takes the town, it could advance more quickly towards Kostyantynivka and put other parts of Donetsk Oblast at greater risk. https://twitter.com/Tatarigami_UA/status/1777381339651543293#m

GeoConfirmed UKR.
Since March 1, it is again striking how much material Russia has lost.
This is based on GeoConfirmed footage, although it is important to note that this only represents a portion of the actual events occurring on the ground.
The reality is even worse for Russia.
Over the same time period, Russia's territorial gains in different regions have been minimal, but they have come at a significant expense.
Conclusion:
Ukraine has been exchanging territory at a very high price for Russia, incurring significant losses in Russian equipment and personnel.

RT @RALee85: From a battalion commander with Ukraine's 59th Motorized Brigade from 2 weeks ago,
"what is needed now are people...Because even young guys can’t stand to spend two years in the trenches, their health is not good enough. And in our army, the average age is probably 40-42. Because we don’t have young people going to war, we have men who are over 40. A lot of them leave for health reasons… And fewer come back for various reasons. And this is the main reason why there are not enough people.
If there were more people, it would be much easier for those guys in the trenches, because they would know that they have been in the trenches for two days and then gone on a break for two days. But now he has to sit more. And because of this, morale is already declining, it’s harder."

RT @Saturnax1: #SubMonday #Submarines #ColdWar #History
#OTD in 1982, while on duty in the Barents Sea, the Soviet Navy's Northern Fleet Project 705K/Alfa-class interceptor SSN K-123 suffered a release of approx. 2 tonnes of a liquid metal coolant from the reactor into the reactor compartment, leading to a deterioration of the radiation situation.
As a result of the coolant loss she immediately lost the power, surfaced, the power plant was switched into a cooldown mode, power consumption was transferred to the battery & diesel generator, and the accident was reported to the HQ via radio. K-123 was towed to her home base by the rescue ship Altai.
The accident irreparably damaged the reactor so that it had to be replaced & it took nine years to finish the repairs. The cause of the accident was later defined as a clogging of the steam generator tubes with sludge & corrosion damage.
