@Robbbie_Sharp @LodevMeulen @DecodingTrolls: “I suspect your motives.”

This is not something to say to anyone who has a different opinion than you. The fact that Ukrainians aren’t allowed to disagree with a decision to remove Ukraine’s best military commander without being suspected of being politically biased is ridiculous.

It’s significant because he was the most valuable and experienced commander and was replaced with a Soviet-style meat grinder commander who doesn’t value soldiers lives like Zaluzhnyi does. He was the worst pick and replaced the best commander. The reason the war isn’t going the way Zelensky wants it to is because Ukraine literally doesn’t have ammunition to defend itself, let alone have enough IFVs, armored vehicles, air defenses, air support, or long-range missiles. It would be wrong for Zaluzhnyi to be throwing troops to go attack when they are not properly equipped.

This is also awful for soldier morale to replace Zaluzhnyi with Syrsky, who is a Russian, went to Moscow’s military academy, has a family who lives in Russia now, who is responsible for thousands of Ukrainian soldiers dying in Bakhmut, and is a more Soviet-style oriented commander instead of a NATO style oriented commander like Zaluzhnyi was. The fact that it has happened in wartime before in other wars does not mean it is a good decision to make. I don’t know how on Earth you think this was a good decision.

Regarding what Ukrainians think of this decision, only 2% supported Zaluzhnyi being removed. Zaluzhnyi is supported by 92% of Ukrainians, while Syrsky is supported by 33%. This is not only bad militarily, it is bad morale for the country. Zelensky also removed someone very competent and put in a commander who would agree with everything he says, who has no military experience and should let the military do their job, while he focuses on politics. This is an opinion held by the vast majority of Ukrainians.

@ukraine_map @Robbbie_Sharp @LodevMeulen @DecodingTrolls: We will wait and see how the war turns out with the new commander in the next couple weeks and months, but currently it does not look like the right decision militarily, politically, or for morale to replace Zaluzhnyi with Syrsky
Ukraine Battle Map (Twitter)

@Robbbie_Sharp @LodevMeulen @DecodingTrolls: No one said that it’s a popularity contest who should be the Commander-in-Chief however it has a big effect on the people’s morale and troop morale the dismissal of Zaluzhnyi.

This decision likely makes the war more politically driven, instead of miltiarily driven. Zaluzhnyi was removed mainly for two known reasons, the first is because he disagreed with Zelensky on how to manage the war, once again Zelensky does not have any military experience and should leave fighting the war to the military, and the second because Zelensky didn’t like how the war was going, which is because Ukraine does not have the equipment needed to defend themselves due to US stopping aid. These are the two most obvious reasons that we know about for why he was removed. He was replaced with someone who would agree with and be loyal to Zelensky, based on previous reporting between how Syrsky has sided with Zelensky in previous disputes.

Now Ukraine is sending thousands more troops into Avdiivka, the same thing Syrky did in Bakhmut which led to thousands of Ukrainians dying. Again, they are surrounded, not properly equipped, without proper air support, not enough ammunition, and being bombed day and night. This goes back to the point about Zaluzhnyi valuing soldiers lives more than Syrky.

I also addressed like 10 other points which which you just completely ignored.

'this is a very grim scenario,' the defence official said, adding that the Pentagon was particularly concerned about maintaining Ukrainians’ air defence systems and ammunition supplies."
