CDU opposition tabled a vote to send Taurus to 🇺🇦. 🚦Govt voted against.

Despite many in 🟢🟡 claiming to support delivering Taurus & Ukraine’s victory.

- Putting party ahead of country & playing parliamentary games will only increase frustration with the German political establishment. This risks increasing support for the AfD.

- For all the FDP & Green excuses, many of them know the CDU was right on this. And they should have voted for it.

- Try explaining to voters why the same MPs will then vote for it in a few weeks - when they table their own amendment Especially when they know that Scholz will block it anyway.

- They are dodging the real problem. The coalition is now dangerously dysfunctional. There is infighting on practically everything & it is damaging credibility with voters as well as allies.
Under Scholz that’s damaging Germany, Ukraine & Europe.

- How much longer the🟢 in particular can stay in the coalition having lost their climate & transition fund and being forced to compromise on so much over Ukraine & weapons supply is an open & increasingly asked question.

- while SPD & FDP are feeding their bases in a desperate attempt to shore up their popularity (Lindner’s red-meat populist turn is particular clear), the Greens are not able to do the same. Instead they are losing support & giving in to Scholz agenda.

- which they know is hurting🇺🇦 badly, making it less likely to win the war (Scholz still hasn’t said 🇺🇦 should win - which is v.confusing for voters).

- This is terrible for European security. By not winning in🇺🇦, we are sleepwalking into the danger of a wider war in Europe, which🇩🇪 could not avoid getting dragged into, because we are emboldening not deterring Russia.

- We are not giving Ukraine what it needs to conduct active defence this year let alone what it needs to prepare to go on the offensive & win next year

- & With danger coming & the US guarantee uncertain.

-We are not re-arming ourselves in any serious way. There is no urgency & cheap excuses & jokes (‘be careful what you wish for’) come in place of putting the economy on the war footing we need.

- We need to blow up the Kerch bridge for Ukraine to win - & sending Taurus and other precision long range strike weapons would allow that.

- But it’s increasingly clear that the Ampel (Traffic Light) coalition has run its course.

- The party that ends the 🚦coalition (which would, I think, only be the greens) should be thanked not blamed.

- By doing the right thing for their principles, for European security & 🇩🇪national interest they would make a strong stand in front of the electorate.

- ‘We’re not getting what we want, what was promised (climate & transition fund) & what is in 🇩🇪 & EUR interest (victory in 🇺🇦).

🟢So we’re out’🔴

- & their voters (& others) could well reward them for it.

- it’s a principled power move that also sends a very strong signal to a future coalition partner (Hi CDU!) not to mess them around.

- There seems to be a worry that they would be blamed for instability.

- But does anyone in Germany feel that this is stable right now? I doubt it. It feels more like the wheels are coming off the country.

-It takes boldness to stop that. To stop the rot & get Germany back on track. German’s need that. So do Ukrainians and all Europeans.

Be honest with the voters & to yourselves, stay principled, get strategic, & don’t forget:

History punishes those who delay.
