The Russian aircraft over the North Sea earlier today was a Northern Fleet Naval Aviation Bear-F and a Bear-J according to the RAF.

I think the sortie must be seen in relation to the current Russian naval exercises.

@lawfulhamster It was probably empty, what usually happens is they are damaged and immobilized, then the crew evacuates it. To make sure the enemy cant recover the vehicle, they send in drones dropping grenades to finish the job.
