With additional imagery of the remains and some informed insights (h/t @blueboy1969) it appears that the missile functioned properly, in the follow through bomb mode.

However, whether it hit the target is unclear.

@WarMonitors The reason they had to do this is because Russia can’t drop FAB-500s on the area since Ukraine has brought in more air defenses. Typically Russia could drop a FAB-500 and it would hit on the other side of the river.

They aren’t allowed to fire GMLRS into Russia now but they could later. HARM and M777s can fire on Russia

It’s US who’s scared to let Ukraine hit military targets in Russia, but Russia can hit wherever it likes in Ukraine
