I wouldn't call this a coup because the purpose was not to replace Putin. It was an attempt to prevent Wagner from being subordinated to the MoD and Prigozhin from losing his position of power. It was a means of forcing Putin to cave on this issue and to get his attention. 6/

@RobynDixon__ Well it wasn't clear what Wagner's purpose would be after Bakhmut because they aren't designed for defense. But I think he lost Putin's support during Bakhmut because of his public criticisms and Wagner was going to lose influence/ability to recruit.

If this is true, it likely wouldn't be a solution. Wagner has a large presence across Africa, which benefits and depends on the Russian government/military. Would the Kremlin allow the same dynamic to continue if Prigozhin and Wagner are based in Belarus?
