I made this post about the Russian retreat yesterday, a bit about why and how.
-----------
@DefMon3:
I get a lot of questions about the Russian retreat.
Why would they announce the retreat before they leave?
Why would they announce it on TV?

This retreat most likely started mid October. I believe the Russians executed a retreat successfully with minimal losses.

@kromark:
We started to look at the recent sat imagery by @planet and found out that at least since Oct. 8th the ferry was heading to the "risky" right bank empty, unlike earlier trips. https://t.co/MDoE3Ef7ur

There will of course be losses related to the retreat, there might even be units left behind, but I don't think it will be in the thousands. There will probably be some amount of equipment left behind, this is unavoidable.

@allabouttheben_ The order was given weeks ago

For some reason this thread broke even if I posted all in one go. Trying to repair.

They also destroyed the Antonovskiy Bridge, the railway bridge and the Dar'ivka bridge (some days ago iirc)

@BNODesk:
NEW: Satellite imagery taken today shows damage to bridges in the Kherson region

#Ukraine: To make today even more notable- for the first time ever Ukrainian forces were spotted using Israeli-made military vehicles! Here we see an Israeli GAIA Amir MRAP 🇮🇱, currently deployed in #Kherson Oblast.

There is no information how these vehicles appeared in Ukraine.

We shouldn't dismiss Ukraine's chances of achieving further gains over the winter. Russia's force is increasingly composed of involuntary soldiers (mobilized, stop-loss, etc.). Bad weather presents challenges but also opportunities for UA units with better discipline and morale.
-----------
@shashj:
"Gen. Mark A. Milley ... has made the case in internal meetings that the Ukrainians have achieved about as much as they could reasonably expect on the battlefield before winter sets in" https://t.co/jpY1tqornk This is curious. Surely it depends on the prognosis for spring?

@mhmck That part on the right side of Kherson City (Antonivka) has been taken back as of today morning.

Ukraine has demonstrated a greater ability to strike targets behind Russia's lines with SOF, partisans, UAVs, and precision fires than Russia. That means Ukraine can continue to raise costs for Russian forces and their occupation efforts even if the front is relatively static.
