I think the General Staff, if they still are able to do some level of decent strategic planning, would disagree with Skabeyeva.

Striking NATO territory wouldn't be the best way to defend Russia in the current circumstances.

This is mostly noise, though worth monitoring.

@francis_scarr:
More threats from Olga Skabeyeva today:

"Washington is well aware that if the Pentagon supplies Ukraine with ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 300km, Russia has every right to defend itself. That's to say, to strike Poland or the US's Ramstein base in Germany, for example." https://t.co/8hljf4ig6L

RT @RALee85: Longer video shows the tank survived the strike. There are actually a few videos showing Russian tanks surviving ATGM strikes (something to keep in mind when saying the tank is obsolete). 2/

Russian MBT receives a direct ATGM hit, however missile fails to penetrate into the tank’s armour.

Ukrainian Forces liberated the village of Yarova, Donetsk region

I think it is actually a Wagner unity of command and incentive problem. Wagner appears to be in charge of the Bakhmut front for Russia. They'll receive credit for taking it (as they did with Popasna), but will get little by helping plug holes in Russia's lines elsewhere.

@warnerta:
I see one answer to two puzzles about the recent course of this war. Why did Russia leave Kharkiv oblast so exposed? And why is Russia now focusing on tiny gains in Bakhmut while weakly countering Ukraine's preparations for another NE offensive? In short: Potemkin syndrome.🧵

@Devilstower I am waiting for a credible confirmation on those two villages before reporting them as liberated.

Who gives orders to Wagner in Ukraine? I don't think Prigozhin or his subordinates report to any of the Russian military group commanders. Maybe they report to the overall commander, or Prigozhin just talks directly to Putin going outside of the chain of command.

@StephenB_80 Exactly how this war would end on Russia's terms has been unclear since the battle for the Donbas began. Even if Russia had seized the Donbas, that wouldn't end the war. I think they are hoping Ukraine will give up or external support will dry up.
