Spain exempts self-custody wallets from crypto tax reporting

Spain's tax authorities have confirmed that cryptocurrency held in self-custody wallets — where the owner controls the private keys — does not need to be reported under Form 721, the country's disclosure form for foreign-held digital assets. The exemption hinges on one condition: no third party holds the assets on your behalf.

Hardware wallet maker NGRAVE has been caught up in a $2.65 million phishing attack, with on-chain analysts at Bitquery tracing stolen funds into XMR1 purchases on Hyperliquid. Bitquery notes it cannot confirm every involved wallet belonged to an NGRAVE user — but the trail is uncomfortable reading for a company whose entire brand promise is security.

Cold storage was supposed to be the safe option. Phishing, it turns out, doesn't need to crack the hardware.
