Kraken will now be able to process U.S. dollar transactions without intermediary banks. This is expected to speed up deposits and withdrawals for institutional clients and large traders.

However, the access is limited: Kraken will not be able to earn interest on reserves or use the Fed’s emergency lending facilities.

DeFi network Katana starts with a 10% drop

On March 18, the financial network Katana (KAT), built with support from Polygon, began trading on Binance, Coinbase, OKX, MEXC, and several other crypto exchanges.

Last year, Katana attracted $200 million in liquidity and launched a long-term $1 billion rewards program.

However, this may have worked against KAT’s price: some early participants took profits after it rose to $0.02, and the token then fell to $0.012.

Coinbase may lose part of its revenue due to CLARITY Act

U.S. lawmakers are discussing a bill that could restrict stablecoin yield payments. This could impact Coinbase’s model, which relies on rewards to retain users and encourage holding USDC on the platform.

At the same time, the bill includes loopholes: instead of “interest,” companies could use bonuses, cashback or activity-based rewards, effectively achieving the same result.

Despite the risks, analysts say this is not critical for Coinbase’s business, as most of its revenue still comes from trading and other services.

The stablecoin market is expected to reach $2 trillion by 2028

Standard Chartered has maintained its forecast that the stablecoin market will grow to $2 trillion by 2028. At the same time, the bank reported that stablecoin velocity has doubled over the past two years.

Tokens now change hands an average of six times per month.

The increase in velocity is driven by the adoption of USDC in payment systems, replacing traditional finance (TradFi). Meanwhile, USDT continues to serve as “digital savings” in emerging markets.
