I’m a pre-admitting nurse that talks with patients coming in for surgery. I talked with a patient today who’s son is one of the doctors at the hospital where I work. She has can sir and is coming in for a port placement. When I asked if there were any stress factors we should know about, she started first stating she watched her husband sud den ly drop d e a d in front of her eyes and shortly after got this diag no sis. Since her son is a doc tor, she has had at least 3 samples, which I’m sure was the same for her husband. The hos pi tal is full of sample receivers that are very s I c k with horrible li fe affecting problems. Every day on the speaker system a call for others to come help in a room where a sampler is no longer breath ing and needs C P R. Of course no one is talking about this but they did keep track of how many were there during co v I d. It’s truly horrible. I’ve never seen anything like this in my 33 years of being a nurse.
