In practice, the “opposites” are managed toward predictable syntheses that stabilize outcomes favorable to institutional and financial power. The poles do not behave as authentic antitheses; they operate as complementary parts of a controlled synthesis that channels social energies toward elite-preferred resolutions.

This is not merely a philosophical pattern. It functions as a hierarchical mechanism—what I describe as a “Gnostic Jacob’s Ladder”—in which conflict is metabolized into ascent: an architecture of control that culminates in self-apotheosis, with humanity positioned to replace the divine as the author of reality.

A similar dynamic appears in modern appropriations of the perennialist tradition associated with René Guénon and Julius Evola. While framed as a recovery of primordial metaphysical principles, it often manifests as the externalization of hierarchy—a concept with clear parallels in 20th-century esoteric literature, including Alice Bailey. The practical effect is frequently syncretic monism: an immanent, evolutionary “oneness” that dissolves durable distinctions rather than illuminating them.

These spiritual–metaphysical trends converge with a technological one: the immanentization of the eschaton—the attempt to achieve transcendent ends through human engineering. Stanford Research Institute’s Changing Images of Man (1970s) is illustrative, calling for a redesigned human self-image oriented toward transpersonal identity, ecological embedding, and evolutionary self-direction. The unifying aim is self-apotheosis: the belief that humanity, via technological augmentation and deliberate restructuring of psyche and society, can assume functions historically reserved for the divine. This inverts the creator–creation distinction, legitimizing a synthetic replacement for the natural order. The injunction “Ye shall be as gods” is therefore not just rhetoric; it is increasingly instantiated through AI, algorithmic governance, neurotechnology, and large-scale behavior management in a cybernetic organism—an ambition traceable to emanationist theologies that invert traditional ontological hierarchy.

For that reason, rejecting the left–right dialectic is absolutely necessary but not sufficient. The deeper phenomenon is a technocratic syncretic monism: a fusion of perennialist metaphysics with posthumanist ambition that builds a new hierarchy in which biological humanity is treated as transitional.

If individual sovereignty is to be preserved, it will require at minimum: enforceable neuro-rights (reinforcement of what is codified via the metaphysical framing of the Declaration of Independence and by extension the Constitution), and a categorical refusal to redefine human worth, identity, or cognitive liberty in terms of data-extractable value or behavioral compliance.
