Modeling and simulation can be used to gain a deeper understanding of full cells and improve their overall efficiency. In this blog post, we provide an overview of how modeling can be used to evaluate different aspects of fuel cell designs. We look at a solid oxide fuel cell, a low-temperature proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell, a nonisothermal PEM fuel cell, and fuel cell stack cooling.

The heat required to warm Finland’s domestic buildings accounts for 82% of the country’s energy-related emissions. One way to reduce consumption of nonrenewable heating fuel is to use solar energy. However, this can be challenging during Finland's cold, dark winters. Polar Night Energy has developed technology for heating buildings with solar-generated heat stored in sand.

Photovoltaic-thermal panel based on channel-box heat exchanger
A group of scientists at the Chouaïb Doukkali University in Morocco have developed a new design for a photovoltaic-thermal solar panel based on a channel-box heat exchanger. These researchers have proposed a design that improves the convective exchange of heat exchangers and boasts an overall panel efficiency of more than 90%.
