We caught a comet! ☄️
The Compact Coronagraph (#CCOR1) on @NOAA's #GOES19 🛰️ tracked #Comet C/2026 A1 (MAPS) over the weekend. According to @NWSSWPC, "The comet does not appear to have survived its close approach to the sun and likely disintegrated into dust and gas after getting as close as about 100,000 miles from the solar surface."

Our satellite caught a celestial visitor! As #Comet C/2025 R3 (#PanSTARRS) passed by Earth during April 24–25, 2026, the Compact Coronagraph (#CCOR1) on @NOAA's #GOES19 satellite tracked its path. The comet was discovered last September by the Haleakalā Observatory in Hawaii. https://t.co/s2rnIGm0XY
