donald trump may have made poor choices but behind his political persona there’s a real human being with a distinctive identity and character, he wasn’t made in a political test tube like desantis was and for that reason alone I could never choose desantis over trump

even with the vaccine, while trump made a horrible decision in peddling it, I genuinely think the enthusiasm he had for it was due to the fact that he saw it as his personal accomplishment, not because of some cold political calculation

whereas I think desantis’ eventual opposition to the vax was purely political once he realized how much vaccine hesitancy there ended up being among the Republican base

I don’t think he genuinely cares one way or another

and that means something!

it’s true that, say, robbing a homeless man is a graver sin than contraception

however, no one today thinks it’s morally acceptable to rob a homeless man, but most think it’s morally acceptable or even good to contracept

this is why the Church ought to preoccupy Herself more with condemning the latter sin and others like it in this day in age in particular

through the Eucharist, we not only remain in Him spiritually, but abide in His very Body and Blood, really and substantially
