It is for this reason that Judaism unlike other non-Christian religions stands in unique opposition to the Catholic Church. It’s not just that they don’t believe in Jesus, but they received an identity from God that is itself a sign pointing toward something they reject. Christianity is not just an ideological opponent, its very existence creates for them a perpetual identity crisis at the most foundational level of their Jewishness.

Love Jon Miller but I don’t think this take is fully accurate. It’s not to say there’s zero truth to it, in that Catholicism does reject Puritanism and piety signaling (especially of the Lila Rose and Trent Horn variety). But while Catholicism does allow for a more realistic outlook on the ongoing nature of how salvation/justification works in the soul, the notion that Catholicism differs form Protestantism by essentially being more lukewarm over sins of the flesh (whether they’re done by word or deed) just doesn’t reflect reality at all.

Crack open a single manual of how priests were instructed to handle confessions and you’ll immediately see the standards for avoiding grave sin in this area are way higher than what he’s implying. Better yet, just participate actively in the life of a normal Catholic parish and you’ll find expectations to be higher than this precisely because we believe that as grace changes the soul, so likewise does sin and the attitudes about sin that we cultivate within our interior lives
