Children should not carry the weight of their parents’ conflicts. Avoid arguing in front of them; it leaves lasting marks, even when they don’t say anything.
Over time, this can lead children to feel forced to take sides, which they should never have to do. Some may grow up perceiving one parent, especially the mother, as more caring and loving than the other, without recognizing that the other may have spent much of their life working to provide for the family.
