🌱Hello dear people ! 🌱

Next Wednesday 24 of September at 19:00 🕖 our new season begins 🎥.

Join us in our first film session focused on care, socio-environmental issues and intimate story-telling. Discussion with the filmmaker Anna Joos after.

Doors 19:00 🕖 Films start at 19:30 🎥

Where: Kino in der Rietschule Neubrückstrasse 8, 3012 Bern.

MELANCHOLIC DIASPORAS - (2022, 9')
.
.
NIEDERURNEN, GL (MALO VENTO) - (2025, 18’)
.
‍.
Our first event of the season will focus on the social and environmental consequences of the asbestos industry in Switzerland. Asbestos, a carcinogenic building material, has caused serious health problems for factory workers over decades. Among the environmental impacts, asbestos pollutes air, water and soil. The mining of asbestos contributes to the destruction of natural habitats, soil erosion, the release of toxic fibers, and groundwater pollution.
‍
For this screening, we invited Swiss-Swedish filmmaker and visual anthropologist Anna Joos, who has spent over four years researching Switzerland's asbestos history. We will present two of her short films, Melancholic Diasporas and Niederurnen. Both works originate from an intimate family story and from a care-centered perspective expanding on a broader social drama concerning Italian asbestos workers seeking for justice.

✨See you there✨
✨our next event will happen on wednesday 15th of October✨

In the poetic film Fragments of a Life Loved, Chloé Barreau tells the story of a life through the memories of the people she once loved. Since she was sixteen, she has filmed and photographed those around her, collecting letters and mementos that now form the fabric of the film. The result invites us to reflect on fundamental questions: What is love? What does it mean to be loved, or to be hurt? And how can a life be narrated through the voices and recollections of others?

INTERTWINED by Derin SU
RU 2025, 10’
INTERTWINED is a performance-based film that unravels the psychological threads of a young woman who attempts to process her inner world by designing with fabric and performing the figures of her mother, father, and child self. Through three monologues, the film explores how trauma lives
in the body, how identities are sewn together, and how memory and healing can be performed, one stitch at a time.

.

SCAR TISSUE // YARA KABUĞU by Derin Su
TR 2024, 5’

“Yara Kabuğu” is a solo, experimental film project that seeks to give voice to a silenced experience, a personal event rooted in the systematic gender inequality that was once suppressed. Through the process of artistic reinterpretation, it transforms a memory, once lived and now reframed, with the participation of the audience and the structure of art itself. Developed through improvisational techniques, the film challenges the imposed and homogenised identity of women, aiming to bring the creator’s most vulnerable and authentic self to the forefront. As a project of self-love and healing, “Yara Kabuğu” reexamines an indelible scar, striving to create a new reality through audience engagement and collective witnessing. It seeks to unveil a story that lingers in the background but deserves to be heard, a
testimony that echoes resilience and reclamation.

.

BUFIE by Fae Khanzade
TR 2026, 10’

Tara, an Iranian singer who is forbidden to sing in her own country, leaves home to pursue her dream. But in this new world, she finds herself unable to dream anymore.

.

RÊYA PENABER (Le chemin des réfugié·e·x·s) by Rosida Koyuncu
CH 2026, 74’

“The Refugees’ Journey” (rêya penaber in Kurdish) emerged from numerous encounters between trans and non-binary artists, LGBTIQ+ activists, and the filmmaker, who is herself in exile in Switzerland. Moving beyond the usual narratives of victimization, the film explores how displaced communities transform trauma into creativity and solidarity.
Oscillating between memory, collective rituals, and artistic expression — and reflecting the fragmented yet resilient nature of exile — Rêya Penaber is both a journey and a testimony: a path shaped by resistance, imagination, and the constant quest for freedom.

.

After the projection, we invite you to stay for a Q&A with the filmmakers. We also have the chance to invite the Organisation Shahmaran.
