Gametogenesis is a production of reproductive cells (gametes) that take place in the gonads (reproductive organs), which are the testes (male) and the ovaries (female).

Gametogenesis produces gametes that are haploid (n).

When fertilisation takes place, the nucleus of the sperm will fuse with the nucleus of the ovum in the Fallopian tube to form a diploid zygote (2n).

Spermatogenesis is the process by which haploid spermatozoa develop from primordial germ cells in the seminiferous tubules of the testis.

This process starts with the mitotic division of the stem cells located close to the basement membrane of the tubules.
These cells are called spermatogonial stem cells/primordium germ cell.

Proses ini bermula dengan pembahagian sel stem secara mitosis yang terletak di bahagian bawah tubul membran.

15.2 Gametogenesis in Humans

Oogenesis is the process of secondary oocyte or female gamete production.

This process takes place in the ovaries. Unlike spermatogenesis, oogenesis begins in a female's ovaries before they are born.

1. Primordial germ cells undergo mitotic division multiple times to form oogonium (2n).

2. Oogonium develops into primary oocyte (2n) which encapsulated with one or more layers of follicular cells (primary follicles). Stimulated by FSH. Primary oocyte undergoes meiosis but the process stops at prophase I during fetal development.

3. At birth, a baby girl already has millions of primary oocytes that remain dormant in Prophase I. The number of oocytes will decrease at puberty.

Oogenesis adalah proses di mana oosit sekunder atau gamet betina dihasilkan.

Proses ini berlaku di dalam ovari.

Tidak seperti spermatogenesis, oogenesis bermula di dalam ovari seseorang perempuan itu sebelum mereka dilahirkan lagi.

1⃣ Sel germa primordium (2n) menjalani mitosis berulangΒ² kali untuk menghasilkan oogonium (2n).

2⃣ Oogonium kemudian berkembang menjadi oosit primer(2n) yang dibaluti oleh satu@dua lapisan selΒ² folikel (folikel primer). Ia dirangsang oleh hormon perangsang folikel (FSH). Oosit primer menjalani meiosis tetapi ia terhenti semasa fasa profasa I semasa perkembangan fetus.

3⃣ Semasa kelahiran, seorang bayi perempuan sudah memiliki beberapa juta oosit primer yang kekal dorman. Bilangan itu akan berkurangan sehingga baligh
